G.R. Whitfield is a PreK-8 school in rural Grimesland, NC that enrolls about 550 students. Our open campus includes 3 main buildings, the newest addition was completed in 2001.  

 

G. R. Whitfield School, founded by George Roscoe Whitfield, was formerly Pitt County Training School. It was the only high school for black students in Pitt County. Dormitories were built in 1923. In the 1960's the school was desegregated. In 1967, the school was renamed G.R.Whitfield School.
